Welcome to the homepage of the UWS Pyros American Football Team. The Pyros play in the Border Conference of the BUAFL (British Universities American Football League). They were the Scottish Division Champions in the 2008/09 season. However, this season has seen them struggle somewhat, and this is reflected in their current standing (10th).

Here you will find the latest news, views, and a selection of player profiles from the 2010/11 season, with input from players and management. Photos, links to twitter and facebook, E-polls and video footage will form the basis of this website.

Current Management

Brian ‘Bud’ McFerren (Head Coach)

Alan Bigham (Defensive Coach and Assistant Manager)

Alastair Adamson (President of UWS Pyros, also running for Sports President in the Students’ Association elections)

About the Pyros

The UWS (University of the West of Scotland) Pyros are an American Football team, comprising of players from three main campuses: Ayr, Hamilton, and Paisley. They train at UWS Thornly Park Campus (a short car or bus journey from Paisley Gilmour Street). The Pyros pride themselves on having a distinguished multicultural feel and background. Whether you are here on ERASMUS (study abroad) or a regular full-time student, you will find that everyone is treated the same. Players from Germany, France, Scotland, America and Romania have passed through the Pyros’ special academy. By joining the Pyros you will have the chance to make new friends, perhaps learn a new language (English, Scots, or something in between), and to attend various social gatherings (UWS in the Park, the UWS Sports Ball, and so on). You will be encouraged by teammates and professional coaches to achieve your potential in a safe and friendly environment.
